Celebrating 60 years of showcasing real women and their lifestyle concerns, Dove takes a step in a new direction after listening to the opinions and interests of their consumers. Many women often feel like they are not represented when they turn on their television screens or flip open a magazine and Dove is standing by them to wash away some of the unrealistic images seen in media. Heading into the world of film, Dove has launched Real Beauty Productions. A production company built because all women and girls have the right to see their #RealBeauty represented in media and culture.
This wouldn’t be as epic as it is if the company didn’t partner with the original gladiator herself, Shonda Rhimes. She is the first creative director at Real Beauty Productions and will assist Dove in rallying women to help shape #RealBeauty. Shonda is known for her ABC network Thursday night take over, where four of her amazingly written television series are shown weekly.
Real Beauty Productions is a new collaborative content studio that will give women and girls the opportunity to share personal stories that expand the definition of beauty. Women across the globe will be allowed to submit their stories at DoveRealBeauty.com — those stories will then possibly inspire several films. The women behind the selected concepts will join Shonda Rhimes on-set to film their own stories.
It gets better!
As women continue to fight for equal pay, rights and respect Real Beauty Productions has set a goal to employ an entirely female crew. This is to ensure a women’s perspective shapes the film from every angle – in front of and behind the camera.
“I have always told stories to show us who we really are – our real human truths,” Shonda said. “The way women are depicted on our screens – big and small – must be challenged. I am personally eager to see the real and unexpected stories women will share with us.”
