New artist, new sound, and I’m thoroughly digging it. Hello Courtnie.
She starts her song with “This is some afro-centric sh*t…”, over a smooth Brandon Combs-produced track that chronicles of what it’s like being black in America.
The soulful melody brutally speaks on the perks of having being brown skin. “You so poetic, we so poetic,” she sings throughout the chorus. According to Courtnie, the uplifting track was inspired by tensions around racism in Black America. “In light of all that’s going on with black America right now, from police brutality to revolutionary acts at Mizzou near my hometown St. Louis, this track couldn’t be more relevant,” she tells VIBE. “You So is about how poetic we are as people,” she adds.
